On Sunday, October 14th Martinez moved up the ASP ratings table 7 places to finish 6th with 2 stops on the tour to go.
His dream became reality when the defending champion became the first surfer in the history of the Billabong Pro in Mundaka to take back to back victories at the World class lefthander.
Martinez recalled “I had a dream that I won the event about a week ago, I didn’t even tell my fiancé Cleo, but I didn’t want to wake up from the dream. It felt so real and now it has come true, it’s just so weird how it all ended up”.
“It’s good to win an event wherever it is, but winning here last year and then winning here now… it’s just brought back so many great memories.”

A Woman in Australian has survived a shark attack by a Great White after defending herself with her paddle when the shark knocked her off her surf ski. The shark’s victim, Linda Whitehurst said: “I thought this is it, he is going to grab my leg. I had my blade ( her paddle) and I just kept punching, punching, punching.”
She suffered only minor cuts on her right arm in the battle with the 2.5 metre long shark. [Read more →]

Billabong Pro at Mundaka - Round 3. Wednesday, 10 Oct, 2007
The round 1 winners of the Foster’s ASP World Tour, Billabong Pro Mundaka are still waiting after more than a week to move on with the contest. There will be no action in the water today either as the contest is put on hold for another day.
Two more days of surfing have yet to be run before a winner takes to the podium. There are five days left in the Billabong Pro waiting period and according to officials, the competition may have to be held back at the back-up beach break of Bakio. Check out Mike Parsons at Jaws on the Island of Maui, Hawaii, getting pulled onto the biggest wave I’ve ever seen ridden. Its just awesome. Whenever I watch it I feel like I’m falling of a tall building! If you look closely you can see his big ballz draggin in the wave behind him.
Cool Vid from Jack Johnson, great tune & mellow waves. Apparently its shot in a place called Pichilemu in Chile. The song is called ‘Breakdown’ and it’s from the ‘In Between Dreams’ album from 2005, also released as a single in Jan 2006. This movie shows just how talented this ‘bloody bloke’ is! Can you believe these guys? Garrett Mcnamara and Kealii Mamala, top Hawaiian big wave surfers looking for that extra thrill put themselves in the firing line. Not only are they out there in sub zero temperatures but it seems like they’ve some how set of an avalanche which in turn sets of a tsunami. So then they get the jetski out and proceed to tow into the wave. It’s just amazing the lengths people will go to to ride waves! Awesome!
The Indonesian Surfing Championship ISC will be hosting a competition for charity at CangguBeach, One of Bali’s classic surf spots during the week of 14th to 21st of October.
It will be sponsored by Oakley Indonesia, a subsidiary of the major international surf wear company. On October 12th their will also be a Surf for Bali Kids Charity Dinner hosted by Hu’u Bar and Restaurant. Tickets for this very worthwhile event are Rp 495,000 (54 USD) a head. [Read more →]
Australia’s Mick Fanning beat South Africa’s Greg Emslie today to take the title of the French QS Pro. It is now possible he could take his first World Title in Mundaka, Spain on the 2 October. The finals were held in 3 to 5 feet surf at Les Bourdaines.
“I’m just so stoked to have another win under my belt,” Fanning, who also won the first event of the year on the Gold Coast of Australia, said. “I’m pumped! After the semis I really realized that you had to have the best waves to win, so that’s what I did. I just sat and waited the whole time.” [Read more →]
