Mundaka ASP World Tour Stop 8
Billabong Pro at Mundaka - Round 3. Wednesday, 10 Oct, 2007

The round 1 winners of the Foster’s ASP World Tour, Billabong Pro Mundaka are still waiting after more than a week to move on with the contest. There will be no action in the water today either as the contest is put on hold for another day.

Two more days of surfing have yet to be run before a winner takes to the podium. There are five days left in the Billabong Pro waiting period and according to officials, the competition may have to be held back at the back-up beach break of Bakio. Conditions at Mundaka have yet to become good enough to run a competition.

“Overall, it is still looking like an inconsistent week to run heats at Mundaka,” Kevin Wallis of Surfline.com said. “While it will have its moments on Thursday and Friday, they’ll be pretty short windows with the westerly swell and extreme tides. There should still be plenty of contestable waves at Bakio and the weekend swell does look better”

When competition does restart, the first heat of the day will be a bye for defending champion Bobby Martinez from the USA. Martinez was supposed to meet injury replacement surfer Trent Munro from Australia, but Munro has pulled out of the competition.

World No. 1 Mick Fanning also from Australia will face wildcard and local Basque surfer Hodei Collazo in Round 3. Reigning World Champion Kelly Slater from USA will meet wildcard Tiago Pires from Portugal in Round 3 while World No. 3 Taj Burrow, Australia draws the final wildcard, Aritz Aranburu, Basque in Heat 13.

Another call on competition will be made at 8am tomorrow.

Video highlights from Round 2, along with photos, quotes and downloadable audio files from the surfers, are available on www.aspworldtour.com and www.billabongpro.com.
